CSMS is an off-the-shelf solution for your charity or non-profit organisation's Child Sponsorship

Developed in VB to take full advantage of Windows ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) technology. CSMS is built on open source architecture, delivering an application that is truly scalable at low-cost if not free in terms of licensing.

At the heart of CSMS is a MySQL database, the "World's most popular open source database, unmatched in speed, compactness, stability and ease of deployment".

Unlike older and some other SQL databases, the MySQL storage engine provides commit, rollback and crash recovery reducing the need for intervention or restore from tape or a mirror in the event of a disaster.

Although not augmented in this release of CSMS, MySQL has been chosen for it's cross-platform support and the ability to connect to it using nearly any programming language, specifically PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor).

PHP is an open source server-side scripting language for creating dynamic web pages. It will be at the core of CSNet (Child Sponsorship Network), the planned true-WAN and GAN enabled version of CSMS accessible from any web browser.

CSNet will also benefit from MySQL's advanced permissions and security system, including support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for transmitting confidential information over the Internet (or Intranet) such as sponsor details and credit card numbers.

Other features of CSMS include; Query caching which can significantly increase the performance of commonly-issued queries (eg. pre- and post-reminders) and full-text indexing and searching.
